Faith in Tomorrow….

It’s easy for “proven leadership experience” to feel like a soundbite at this stage in the campaign: however, here’s a clip about how we built a healthcare system that could respond to some of New Zealand’s largest disasters including earthquakes, fires, the Christchurch terror attacks, and the Whakaari/ White Island volcano response.

When I was the Chief Executive Officer with the Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB), 89% of staff said they felt that they contributed to the success of the DHB. Similarly of patients who received care from the CDHB, during this time, 88% said their physical and emotional needs were met.

I have proven experience in leading large organisations, developing trust and confidence with both those who are accessing services and those who are delivering services. I need your vote to bring that same experience and leadership to the Christchurch City Council – make sure you post your vote today.

Someone who deeply influenced me was my father. As an All Black, he stood up for what he knew was right.

Innovation and leadership

“We’ve got some of the most talented people and organisations to enable and support us building a different future.”

On Climate and Environment

If we’ve agreed there’s a climate emergency (as we did in 2018), then we need to act with urgency. Now.

In last week’s Frank Film, Phil said he thought that we were doing enough. I disagree.

We need more action (and faster), so that Christchurch can be the climate-leader that we want to see. It’s not going to happen without dedicated leadership who takes the issue seriously. I believe that, working collectively, we can tackle this in a cost-effective way (so it’s not a burden to the rate-payer) but also enables us to be pragmatic.

If this is something that worries you, then I need your vote for Mayor: getting out and voting this election is crucial to keep climate action on the agenda.

For more information on the actions I would take (to support the many community groups, not for profits and innovative businesses who are already working on this), visit https://davidmeates.nz/policy/#three-climate.

#DavidMeatesForMayorVote Climate 2022

We absolutely need to move beyond petty politics. In order for us to restore trust and confidence in the Council, we need our Councillors to lead with transparency and integrity. As a leader, I listen; and I work collaboratively. Now, more than ever, we need the Council to step up.

Ever wondered what it would be like to grow up with eight sisters?! Family & whānau shape so much of our values and our lives – it’s fair to say that I learnt a lot from mine (including the importance of listening!). Have a great Father’s Day today everyone.

I’m standing as an independent in its truest sense. I have a proven track record of working with a wide range of people to deliver results.

Having a Council with broad and diverse views is important for making the best decisions for the community, and I’m able to work with whoever the community chooses to elect.

Our city needs experienced leadership as we look to some of the challenges on the horizon. We need a Mayor with governance experience, who can listen, lead and get results.

I’d love your help in spreading the word about my campaign and what I stand for – thank you for your support on the journey so far. Cheers, David…
