In TVNZ 1 Q + A poll, 38% of people said that they didn’t know who they were going to vote for (or refused to say). I believe that this reflects the lack of trust and confidence in Council. Further evidence of that is that 48% of respondents (in the same poll), did not feel confident in the ability of Christchurch City Council to meet the needs of its residents.
Given that this poll was both a small sample size (500 people) and conducted before some of last week’s news stories broke, I’m confident that the mayoralty race is now a lot closer than this poll suggests. But, we do know that people turning out to vote will be essential – participation in this election is crucial, as the questions ahead of us will shape our city for the years to come.
I’d love to hear what you thought of the debate – thanks for your support.
